The Experimental Spirits Co Smoked Bacon Bourbon
Hailing from Sydney, the The Experimental Spirits Co is a small boutique spirits brand with some serious industry credentials. The label was started up Sven Almenning, owner of the award-winning Eau De Vie cocktail bars, and Smoked Bacon Bourbon is the outfit’s first release.
Originally launched in mid 2014 as a Pozible campaign to coincide with Australian Bacon Week, the Experimental Spirits Co and their flagship Smoked Bacon Bourbon was born after Sven successfully raised $25,000 to get the project off the ground. Created by skillfully washing Straight Bourbon Whiskey with 100% Australian bacon sourced from the Marrickville Black Forest Smokehouse. And not just a lil’ bit o’ bacon either – a manly 350 grams goes into the making of every bottle. The spirit then goes through a delicate filtration process to remove all traces of fat & grease, leaving nil behind but the flavour.
Smoky, salty and sweet all at once, the The Experimental Spirits Co Smoked Bacon Bourbon is best served neat, but it also makes a fine Bourbon Old-Fashioned. Just sub in some genuine maple syrup, barrel-aged bitters and sit yourself down by the fire.
